Facilities

We shoot in what looks and feels like a beautiful rural location in Chessington, as you can see in the photo above, but is only 10 minutes drive from the M25 and the A3.  Our new ground at Chessington Cricket and Sports Club has fantastic facilites.  In the winter we have sole use of the back field, a lovely flat cricket field.  In the summer we shoot on the field next door on the main sports ground. The Watling Pavillion is our club house all year round (see picture at the bottom of the page) and has shelter from bad weather, as well as a modern kitchen and toilet.  There is also a very comfortable bar with pool and Sky TV for a drink after shooting, meetings and social events.

Club target days are Saturday (9.30am until the afternoon) and Wednesday evenings in summer (4-7pm)

Directions to club ground

Chessington Bowmen
@ Chessington Cricket and Sports Club, Leatherhead Road, Chessington, KT9 2NB

BY ROAD From M25: Junction 9, exit for Kingston / Leatherhead. Follow signs for A243 (north) towards Kingston and Chessington World of Adventure for 3 miles. After the traffic lights at Malden Rushett pass the Chessington Garden Centre and Chessington World of Adventures on your left. Go past the entrance to Barwell Trading estate on your right. About 50 yds after the phone box turn left into the main carpark of the Sir Francis Barker sports ground.

From London (A3): Come off A3 at the Ace of Spades, exit for Chessington World of Adventures. Turn left and follow A243 (south) for Chessington. There is a roundabout after almost 1 mile, continue south following signs for CWA and M25.. After 500 yds there are traffic light and then pedestrian light after another 300 yards. The turning on the left just after the pedestrain light is Garrison Lane. The Sir Francis Barker sports ground is on the right after another 100 yards about 50 yds before a telephone box. The first entrance for CWA is about another 200 yds further on, if you reach that you have gone too far (unless using it for overflow parking).

BY RAIL: From Waterloo to Chessington South Station (on Chessington South line). Turn left out of the station and follow signs for Chessington World of Adventures. Walk to the end of Garrison Lane staying on the station side of the road, passing Chessington Community College on your right. At the main Leatherhead Road T junction cross over at the pedestrian lights and turn left. The Sir Francis Barker recreation ground is on the right after 100 yds.

BY BUS: The 71 bus from Kingston via Surbiton and Hook ends at Chessington World of Adventures. Get off at Garrison Lane (Chessington South Station) and cross the road at the pedestrian lights next to the bus stop. Turn left towards CWA. After 100 yards the entrance to the sports ground is on your right.

PARKING: There is limited space in the car park which we have to share with other sports users. If the car park is full drop off your equipment and passengers (if possible) and exit the car park. It is tempting to park on the verge outside and you may see other drivers do this. However there is a high risk of getting a parking fine. There is overflow parking outside office hours at the Barwell Trading Estate across the road. Turn right onto the main road and head towards CWA but turn left after 100 yds into Barwell. Turn left again and drive up to near the estate exit. Park on the left and walk to the exit. Please note that the entrance and exits are one way for vehicles. You can either cross the road near the exit of the estate or walk up to the pedestrian lights at Garrison Lane.  It is also possible to park at Chessington World of Adventures, which is about 200 yds south of the Sports ground.  Although a little further to walk it is on the same side of the road and means avoiding having to cross a busy main road.

FINDING THE CLUB HOUSE(Watling Pavilion): (see map below) Walk to the end of the car park and follow the footpath that goes to the right of the first building which is the bar. Go past the bar and the second building which are the changing rooms. Turn left and keep following the path towards the gate for Chessington Cricket Club. Go through the gate, the clubhouse is on the left. During the winter we shoot on the outfield of the cricket club, in summer we shoot on the football pitch of the recreation ground next to the changing rooms.
