 Club AGM - 10th Nov 2010

 CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS
Although we dropped from top dog to 4th place in the LYG we still came away with a few successes. Principal among these were top spots for Laura Smith and personal bests for Duncan Garner. Our juniors have certainly put our club on the map and, as when meeting archers from other clubs during the past year I have heard glowing reports of our attitude to our juniors and the success they are having. In fact, at a recent Borough event that Brenda and I attended three weeks ago, I overheard one Borough committee member telling the other that they were very lucky to have a club such as Chessington in the Borough because it did so much to bring on the youngsters.
Our  juniors have also done well in tournaments in 2010 for instance: GARETH  won golds at a couple of tournaments one of which was the Richmond Pagoda shoot.
Both the SMITH girls (Laura and Emma) won gold at the Lintman tournament with Laura winning trophies at a few more tournaments throughout while Emma has not participated too much due to a damaged rib.
DANNI TIGHE was successful at the County championships and had a few other shoots during the year and, to top it all was a member of the Chessington team that won 3rd team trophy at the Guildford Acorn together with RW, SB and believe it or not AT.
DUNCAN Garner has had his successes in 2010 and has returned from shoots  with  several trophies/medals and has also had several PB’s without  being a winner at every shoot.
Recent newcomer to CB is MEGAN Milner, who in her first tournament broke the Surrey record for the round. She, I believe, will continue to carry the Chessington banner together with our other juniors. Well done to all our juniors and here’s hoping for a very successful but, more importantly, a satisfying and enjoyable 2011. With this in mind I would like to thank all the parents and guardians of our juniors for their support because without their support we would have nothing to show for our youngsters’ efforts.
Now I turn to the adults - Peter Wood and Kevin White for winning pairs trophy at the Surrey Champs.
Simon Buchanan has also done a fair bit for keeping Chessington Bowmen to the fore front in the result lists by appearing in the top half dozen and, indeed, actually winning a few tournaments during 2010 and, I have heard that he has not only done well in target but also has distinguished himself in field archery an  it has beenreported today that he won the Surrey Field championships last Sunday (making him County Champion) and on top of all this he was ranked as Surrey’s top archer for 2010.
RICHARD White has entered several tournaments and has scored just a few points below the coveted MB standard. During the early part of the year he created, as a junior, a new Surrey record of 589 for the Portsmouth round and, less than a week ago he put in a score of 591-which if not equal was just one point below the county record for this round. Outdoors within a month of becoming a senior he shot and won the County championships for 2010 and in my opinion , will improve on this and will, no doubt get his MB if not his GMB in 2011. He is certainly capable of this.
Away from shooting I would, at this time, like to give an especial thank you to Noreen Buckley for her splendid work in making the club Gonfalon. It is a superb job and I am very proud and pleased with the result. If you have not already seen it I urge you to take a look tonight it is on............
It is not only the shooters who have done well for the club. Our sec/treas has to be thanked for all her hard work and, and lets be honest,  her tight fisted hold on the money which has meant our coffers are quite healthy  despite the large outgoings of this years annual budget. Also our equipment officer Bill  Lester who worked very hard  during our move from Moor Lane to our present range. He still has a lot to do during the rest of this year and 2011. Peter Wood our coach responsible for training our beginners is doing a good job in instructing them as they try out the intricacies in shooting a bow. As someone who has spent almost forty years undertaking this task,I know  how frustrating it can be at times but also how very rewarding at others. Andrew Trimble our record officer has also done his job diligently and I feel quite chuffed that our records are up to scratch, especially when I hear archers from other clubs bemoaning that their records are incorrect and/or that the records officer is not doing his or her job correctly. Andrew is also doing a superb job as web master and it is great to hear members of other clubs and the public praising our web site. Finally the last man on the committee Simon Buchanan I would like to thank for attending each committee meeting and adding his pennorth of wisdom. I would like to thank your committee for all their stirling work on your behalf and giving me their support during the past twenty four months.

Now, as the club has grown over the past 2 years  I would like to invite two new members to join the committee and my choice for these would be Paul Smith and Jim Tighe but, as this is a democratic club, it is down to your wishes. I  do hope you will agree with my choice for new committee members.
Next year the committee is proposing to hold an open day and so would appreciate any suggestions on  what  you consider appropriate at this meeting or after. To be given to me or the new Chairman.
That is the end of my report  so I will turn to the other committee members for theirs starting with the sec/treas then Bill Lester, Peter Wood, Andrew Trimble followed by Simon Buchanan,

 Pumpkin Shoot - 30th Oct 2010

Great fun was had by all the archers in the pumpkin shoot.  It was a bit harder this year as two out of the six pumpkins were very small, barely covering the X ring.  You lost 10 points if you hit the balloon and 3 points if you hit a black rat.  Thanks to Martin Garner for making the evil looking rats and to Andrew Trimble for organising the pumpkins and the competition.  The worst score of the day was Georgina Speller (-33), our handicap winner Alan Dunn and the winning team was Ratatouille (Alan, Simon and Laura).

Ladder Competition

The ladder is an infomal event where archers are ranked in order according to an initial ranking round.  The event is 36 arrows (3 dozen).  Adult recurve men shoot 60 yds, longbow and lady recurve shoot 50 yards, juniors (U16) shoot 30 yards.  The archer with the best score is top of the table.

From then on throughtout the rest of the season, an archer can challenge an archer on the table above them to a match, if the challenger has a better score they move up the ladder and the defeated archer moves down.  You can only challenge one archer at a time, if you are challenged but fail to show up three times the challenger will win by default.

The ladder results appear on the handicap and ladder section
