Surrey Indoor Champs 2007

Simon shot a double Portsmouth at the Surrey Indoor Championships, scoring 559 and 561. Andrew shot a single Portsmouth scoring 482. No PB's this time but good scores for competitions.

Arundown - 18th Nov 2007

Richard White and Andrew Trimble shot their first indoor competitions of the season at Arundown, near Worthing. It was not a great shoot for either archer. Richard started really well and looked as though he might score 575, just below his PB of 580. With only 7 arrows left to shoot on the Portsmouth round he injured his finger in the middle of a shot. Richard was in some pain and felt unable to continue shooting.

Andrew had hoped to shoot over 500 for the first time in competition but a poor middle section put paid to that. However, he did think about what Coach Ted had said to him about not dropping his bow arm. A stronger extension paid dividends and Andrew finished with 103 for the last dozen taking his final score to 468.

Hopefully Richard's injury is not too serious and that he will be fit for the Surrey Championships next weekend and the Jnr Nationals in two weeks.

Laleham - Oct 15th 2007

Our last outdoor competiton of 2007 at Laleham was an Albion round. Richard, Gareth, Simon, Andrew (the Chessington Bowmen recurve team) and Kevin (shooting longbow) all took part. Richard won the Junior Boys recurve silver medal. Simon won the Gerry Coleman Memorial Tankard for coming 4th in the Senior Men's recurve. Simon had the slightly strange experience of being top of the leader board in the Senior Mens Recurve all the way through the competition until the last distance when 3 archers overtook him. Bob's 2 gold end

Most recurve archers take for granted being able to shoot 2 golds and a red (or better) at what ever distance we are shooting. However, when Bob Bulbeck joined the bent stick brigade (the long bow) he knew that those halcyon days of recurve scores of 9,9,7 were over. Or were they? After almost everybody else had gone home on Saturday Bob kept on shooting, inspired by dreams of yet another victory over France (in both archery and rugby!). His two fingers on his bow string worked over time, he kept shooting at the target at 60 yds and then at 50 yards. Sometimes he hit the target, and sometimes he missed.

Then a miracle happened (a bit like England beating France to get to the World Cup Final!), Bob got 3 hits in one end, and not just any old hits but a genuine double gold with a free red thrown in. Suffice it to say Bob was delighted, so much so that those of us gathered there felt that this momentus occasion should be recorded for posterity on Bob's camera phone, hence forth to be known as "Bob's 2 gold end"!
