Want to try archery?

Introducing beginners to the sport is an important part of our club, and our beginners courses are very popular. Currently, due to the pandemic, there is a lengthy waiting list, but we are working our way through it over the next few months.

Beginners archery courses

A beginners course costs £70 per person, payment is in advance via PayPal. This will include your own tab and bracer, which you can keep after the course. Minimum age is 10. You have to attend three sessions, two hours per session, to get a beginners certificate.  If there is one date you can't attend there is an allowance of one catch-up session at a later date.

Outdoor Beginner Courses - April to September (Dates to be confirmed)

Saturday mornings at Imber Court Sports Club, Ember Lane, East Molesey.


Indoor Beginner Courses - October to March (Dates to be confirmed)

Monday's 6.30pm to 8.30pm at King's Centre, Coppard Gardens, Chessington.


If you would like to sign up for a beginners course, please fill in the form below making sure to include: Full name, age, any disability requirements, and a contact telephone number.

Please note that any beginner under 18 MUST have an adult with them at all times during the beginners course. Winter courses (Oct to March) are indoors on a Monday evening (7-9pm) at the King's Centre in Coppard Gardens, Chessington and summer courses (April to September) are on a Saturday morning (9.30am to 11.30am) at Imber Court Sports Club, Ember Lane, East Molesey. Please do not go to the wrong location.

If you complete the beginners course you can choose to join the club but need to aware of the costs. The full annual membership fee for Chessington Bowmen is £140 for seniors, or £70 for under 18's.  The fee is reduced if you join after September. The membership year runs from September through to August. There is no extra joining fee. See new members page for more details. Please do not try and join until you have successfully completed the beginners course.  Each members needs to have their own equipment. The coaches will give you lots of information about where to go and what to buy, and please be aware that the equipment required can be expensive - expect to pay a minimum of £250 for a complete set up.
